I Heart Macro

August 07, 2011

I've been loving Studio Waterstone's blog ring where bloggers around the world post macro photos of their heart's content.  This week I thought I'd join in with a photo I took this past week while in Montana.

The story behind the shot:  We recently got back from a road trip from NW Washington to Glacier National Park.  It's a long beautiful drive with very different views of dense green forests in Washington to the deserts of Eastern Washington to the rugged mountains and beautiful rushing rivers and full lakes of Idaho and Montana and valleys filled with cattle.   When we reached Idaho we started climbing up and down the different ranges in the Rocky Mountains.  About 2pm every day we found ourselves getting very sleepy.  The many crosses we spotted along Montana's state highways reminded us we shouldn't keep going so we pulled over to take a car nap.  Once stopped, however, I found myself looking out at the wildflowers and grasses and I just had to jump out and take some shots.  When I returned to the car and my husband awoke I showed him the grass shots. He was not impressed and in fact looked at me strangely and asked me to drive.
