Typography - old painted signs on buildings

As soon as I got this week's prompt for our weekly photography challenge I knew where I wanted to take a photo.

Here's Sally's prompt:
The power of the written or typed word can be more powerful then you thought!
The style and appearance of printed matter has an effect to how we view items, websites, businesses, book titles and the list goes on and on.   Is the typography pleasing to the eye, does the font pull you in, draw you away, make you feel inspired?  This week focus on the printed word and see what the words are saying to you!

Every day it seems I find a connection to Santa Cruz here in Sandpoint, Idaho.  The local winery, Pend Oreille Winery, was started by a guy who got his start in wine making in the Santa Cruz area.  That must be why they've got great wines!  Seriously they are lucky to have him and the business in this beautiful small town.
However, it's his wife who is from Sandpoint and had the vision to create such a wonderful place to hang out.  And they're moving!  Yes, they're moving just across the street into a brick building they're renovating to have more space for their wine tasting, shop, and cafe.  We are so glad they're going to expand the cafe, because it's become one of our favorite places to eat.

Old painted Coke sign on side of building

While doing the deconstruction of the building they found old painted signage on the side.  That's the side that's going to have some outdoor cafe seating and in keeping with their style of preserving they've smartly decided to keep them.

I love them, as they harken back to when more of our towns were small and handpainted signs were the norm.  I especially like the layers on this one since they identify different eras of the town and building.  Note the three different fonts!

If you've got a thing for fonts you might want to check out the fonts created by my cousin, John Roshell.  He's been creating and mastering them since 1988.  He also designs logos and designed mine!
