Focusing on Life, Week 21: Reminisce

Kitchen Pass through

Sally of the Studio Sublime's photography trigger this week:

Have you ever been in the middle of a busy day and all of a sudden you run across a certain baked good, candy, flower or an object catches your attention and you are sent right back to your childhood?

This week capture what takes you back to moments past and reminisce a little.

I haven't had a lot of time this week to think about this one.  I thought maybe something might just happen where I could say - There!  But it didn't.  There was a lot of reminiscing with my brothers, but it wasn't triggered by something I could photograph.

So, since I'm doing my best not to miss a week I decided to walk around the house, open cupboards, look around and see if something triggered a childhood memory.

It didn't take me long.
Walking into our kitchen reminded me of one of the reasons I wanted this house.  There is a cupboard in the middle of it that has a pass through to the dining room.

My Grandmother's didn't have an open pass through or glass doors since theirs was a 19th century farm house, but she had a cupboard with solid doors that you could open from the dining room side and the kitchen side.  It was filled with Fiesta Dinnerware, the original stuff, in bright colors.  One of my favorite things to do when visiting was to pick out my bowl for my breakfast cereal.  I remember everything about her kitchen and her dishes.  I'm really not a domestic diva which she certainly was.  My memories of her kitchen bring happy warm thoughts of molasses cookies, fresh strawberry jam and big German meals.  A home where everyone felt welcome.
