During the Victorian era buttons were an art form.  They were considered valuable even then and when a dress wore out they'd snip off the buttons to sew on to a new one.  When I create button jewelry I always set so that the integrity of the button is maintained so I don't affect the future value.  I select buttons for their jewelry quality look though!
