Kitchen Pass through

Sally of the Studio Sublime's photography trigger this week:

Have you ever been in the middle of a busy day and all of a sudden you run across a certain baked good, candy, flower or an object catches your attention and you are sent right back to your childhood?

This week capture what takes you back to moments past and reminisce a little.

I haven't had a lot of time this week to think about this one.  I thought maybe something might just happen where I could say - There!  But it didn't.  There was a lot of reminiscing with my brothers, but it wasn't triggered by something I could photograph.

So, since I'm doing my best not to miss a week I decided to walk around the house, open cupboards, look around and see if something triggered a childhood memory.

It didn't take me long.
Walking into our kitchen reminded me of one of the reasons I wanted this house.  There is a cupboard in the middle of it that has a pass through to the dining room.

My Grandmother's didn't have an open pass through or glass doors since theirs was a 19th century farm house, but she had a cupboard with solid doors that you could open from the dining room side and the kitchen side.  It was filled with Fiesta Dinnerware, the original stuff, in bright colors.  One of my favorite things to do when visiting was to pick out my bowl for my breakfast cereal.  I remember everything about her kitchen and her dishes.  I'm really not a domestic diva which she certainly was.  My memories of her kitchen bring happy warm thoughts of molasses cookies, fresh strawberry jam and big German meals.  A home where everyone felt welcome.

What lovely memories to

What lovely memories to have!! I have an old bowl that was my grandmother's and every time we went to dinner at her house, she served mashed pototoes in the bowl. Now I do the same and 'reminisce' each time I get it out of the cupboard! I can't believe I didn't take a pic of that for this prompt!!

Hi Janet, I remember you

Hi Janet, I remember you mentioning the Fiestaware a couple weeks back. What a perfect subject for this week! I especially love the pitchers - their lines are so distinctive.

What happy memories.

What happy memories. Fiestaware is so much fun.

I always thought it would be

I always thought it would be fun to have a pass through from the kitchen to the dining room. Of course now I do not have a dining room, just a dining area. I like how that pass through gives you such pleasant memories of your grandmother.

what a wonderful memory! My grandmother was German, and I too remember lots of wonderful things from her kitchen. I so wish I had asked her how to can food. She was amazing at it. I still think of her butter pickles
