Dipping My Toes back in

Blue Gem Turquoise Pendant

Dippin' My Toes

Blue Gem turquiose, fossilized coconut shell, sterling silver

In just a little over a week I'll be re-opening my jewelry studio for another season of creative playing.  I know I'm ready, because I've been collecting new stones that are inspiring me.

The Inspiring Sea

Briny Deep

A Jelly-Fish

Marianne Moore, 1887 - 1972

Visible, invisible,
A fluctuating charm,
An amber-colored amethyst
Inhabits it; your arm
Approaches, and
It opens and
It closes;
You have meant
To catch it,
And it shrivels;
You abandon
Your intent—
It opens, and it
Closes and you
Reach for it—
The blue
Surrounding it
Grows cloudy, and
It floats away
From you.

Mixed Media Jewelry

Broken Pieces

Sea Pottery, Vintage brass and copper, Swarovski crystal

In addition to sea glass one can find sea pottery shards along the beach especially if you're near an old dump.  Pottery shards can be as decorative as the ironstone plate piece as seen in my mixed media piece above and blue and white pendant below, or of a more utilitarian use like a redware bowl piece or white stoneware.

Be Fearless!

Bead Embroidered Pendant

Playing with Fire

(features Sonora Sunrise cabochon mined in Mexico, lampworked glass cabochon by Mikelene Reuss, turquoise, sterling silver, and Japanese glass seed beads.)

I fell in love with cabochons first.  Next I had to figure out how I was going to use them in jewelry.  Before my metals class that taught me how to play with fire and metal I bought books by Jamie Cloud Eakin and Heidi Kummli to learn how to capture cabochons with seed beads, something I had plenty of.  (I've included links below to these books.)

"He ran his hands over my past

- lingering over the dents and worn edges of my heart.

And when I thought he'd run away like the others had...

he told me I was a warrior,

and that I'd never fight another battle alone."  Alfa

This is what can happen when I sit with my stash of MAKU ceramic goodies.  I adore her ceramics, because I adore raku colors and her rustic forms.  The sprinkles of silver just add to the magic and for me make them a natural for a silver setting.

Here's one that doesn't have the silver, but oh how I love its shape and colors and how it adds so much to this Plume Agate pendant:
