Bead Embroidered Pendant

Playing with Fire

(features Sonora Sunrise cabochon mined in Mexico, lampworked glass cabochon by Mikelene Reuss, turquoise, sterling silver, and Japanese glass seed beads.)

I fell in love with cabochons first.  Next I had to figure out how I was going to use them in jewelry.  Before my metals class that taught me how to play with fire and metal I bought books by Jamie Cloud Eakin and Heidi Kummli to learn how to capture cabochons with seed beads, something I had plenty of.  (I've included links below to these books.)

It takes time to try colors and shapes of beads, but I really love the process since I get to play and rummage through my stash.  I still enjoy it as an option when I think metal is just not going to give me the story I'm envisioning.

This one of a kind pendant is one I felt produced more energy with its fire theme when it was treated with the texture of the seed beads and the glowing drops of glass.

"There is enough fire inside you

to put all of hell to shame,

but you are pretending to be water

for someone who is afraid to handle

the dragons in your belly.

Stop crushing the thing that makes you.

Embrace the flames.

Be whole again for yourself

and no one else." ~Nikita Gill
